Row, row, row your boat....

Half term is just around the corner and we were looking at membership organisations that offer lots of fun things for children to do over the break. We came across British Rowing and, given the amount of water there is in our lives at the moment - this struck a bit of a chord with us.

British Rowing as an organisation champion rowing and it's incredible health and social benefits. They have introduced "Explore Rowing" in a bid to increase participation and ensure there is a thriving legacy in rowing. They actively encourage all ages to take part. It is easy to join via their website and of course once you have joined you get to enjoy (aside from the rowing activities) a host of other membership benefits.

Their list of member benefits is long and very worthwhile having.

Discounts at Madame Tussauds, Sea Life Centres, Alton Towers, Chessington, Legoloand, London Dungeons; shopping discounts with Cotswold Outdoor; up to 50% off meals through the Gourmet Society; discounts on holidays. The rewards and benefits are too plentiful to remember - so cue iMember.....

Register your membership of British Rowing (and indeed all your other membership organisations) for free with iMember at www.iMember.co.uk and you will be reminded of all your member benefits there and then. If you are out and about this half term, make sure you download the free iMember app to your mobile phone so that you can be reminded of your membership benefits whenever you are within a certain radius of one of them.

So it's benefits all round - the healthy, fun and active benefits of rowing along with the superb membership benefits that come with every level of membership of British Rowing.

Keep fit - keep your sight!

At the iMember offices, we love to be healthy and fit. We were delighted to read about an article published in The Journal of Neuroscience stating that the process of macular degeneration (worsening eyesight) could be considerably slowed by moderate exercise.

It is a fascinating article - involving mice running on treadmills having been exposed to bright light known to induce a condition that is similar to macular degeneration. The mice that ran for an hour a day for two weeks had twice the retinal function of the non-running mice.

Before you rush out and buy your running shoes, we suggest you join your local running club or Run England or virtual running club - The Running Bug. You will then find yourself entitled to all sorts of membership benefits and discounts:- money off shoes, kit, sunglasses, massages (you may need these after longer runs!). It's impossible to remember all the benefits you will get just from these few organisations so register (for free) with iMember at www.iMember.co.uk and we will remind you of them all. Plus you can list any other organisations you belong to and we will remind you of all their benefits and discounts too. Furthermore, you can download a free mobile app to your phone and if you are out and about and come within a certain radius of one of your benefits, you will be notified.

It makes sense - there's benefits all round.

Is it a financial disaster?

Despite interest rates being at their lowest consistent level for years, household finances have been severely squeezed. Once our hard earned wages have been spent on essentials:- mortgages, travel expenses, food, energy bills, many people have less than 5% of their pay left at the end of the month.

According to the Resolution Foundation think-tank, households have taken a "large and permanent hit to their living standards". Gloom, doom and misery all around us and let's not even get started on the weather!

But there are ways you can save money, or perhaps a better way to put it is not to spend so much money, by making sure you are using all the membership benefits on offer to you that you may well have forgotten about or not even known existed. It's tough out there for everyone and in order to attract your "business" you will be offered attractive membership benefits; discounts on some everyday items; discounts on gifts, holidays, cinema tickets; two for one offers; even free offers with some memberships.

How to find out about these benefits AND remember to use them? That's simple (and free!) - register with iMember at www.iMember.co.uk and you can list all the organisations you belong to. You will then be shown (immediately) with thumbnail icons all the member benefits you can get. You can also download a free mobile app so when you are out and about and come within a certain radius of one of your benefits, you will get an alert.

So although it seems a bit of a financial disaster - there are simple ways you can make your money go much further.
